This bird portrait is inspired by the Firecrest and I am over the moon how this teeny tiny songbird turned out. It’s the 21st portrait in my bird series. I wanted to make a Firecrest for quite a while but to be honest, I was dreading it a bit. There were 21 colour layers printed. It was quite challenging to create. Not only for the combination and number of colours but also due to the weather conditions—specifically the heatwave forced me to work in the studio on unusual hours, very early morning and very late evening. It’s a smaller limited edition print run than usual because I started to make this one simultaneously with the previous bird. But after 5 color layers I had to pause one of them as it became too difficult and confusing making 2 different birds side by side.
